You’ve come down with a cold or flu.

You’ve been to see your health practitioner, and you have what you need to help you heal.

You’re resting, but you’ve got an annoying cough that is exhausting.

Here are three strategies to soothe and support healing.

 

cough soother tea

ingredients

1⁄2 a teaspoon of freshly zested ginger.

1⁄4 of a teaspoon of lemon zest.

1⁄2 a teaspoon immune+ powder.

1 tablespoon unprocessed manuka or jarrah honey. Juice of half a freshly squeezed lemon.

A dash of black pepper.

Boiling hot water.

directions

Put the freshly grated ginger, lemon zest, pepper, and immune+ into your favourite tea mug.

Add a little bit of boiling water to release the nutrients and stir. Add the lemon juice.

Add the honey.

Top up your mug with boiling water.

Sip a cup of cough soother tea slowly, two to three times a day, between meals. Drink one cup after breakfast, and the final cup just before bed.

Raw honey is a natural antibiotic with broad antimicrobial activity. If you are vegan, use pure organic maple syrup.

Lemon peel zest provides antimicrobial and antifungal properties. The flavonoid and vitamin C content supports your immune system too.

Makes sure you use lemons that are grown without the use of pesticides, so there is no toxic chemical residue on the peel.

Piperine in black pepper enhances the bioavailability (delivery and absorption) of the nutrients.

If you are pregnant, have type 2 diabetes or suffer from high blood pressure, check with your health practitioner before you consume ginger, herbs or spice.

 

fresh pineapple juice

Fresh, ripe pineapple juice is full of enzymes that can help break down thick mucus to alleviate an annoying cough.

Juice the pineapple core too. It’s full of bromelain, an enzyme which acts as a natural anti-inflammatory.

Make sure you drink fresh juice. Tinned juice does not contain enough bromelain to have therapeutic effects.

You can drink 150ml of pineapple juice a day until your cough subsides.

You can use immune+ with pineapple juice.

You put 1⁄2 a teaspoon of immune+ powder into an empty glass.

Add a little bit of boiling water to release the nutrients and stir.

Then add fresh juice.

Pineapple juice is not recommended if you are pregnant or take blood-thinning medications. Check with your health practitioner before consuming pineapple.

 

choc-cherry soother

ingredients

2 teaspoons of raw cacao.

1⁄2 teaspoon of immune+ powder.

1⁄4 teaspoon of orange zest (optional).

1 tablespoon of raw, organic honey.

1⁄2 a mugful of organic tart cherry juice.

1⁄2 a mugful of boiling water

directions

Put the raw cacao, orange zest, and immune+ into your favourite mug.

Add a little bit of boiling water and mix them into a thin paste.

While stirring, gradually add the rest of the boiling water.

Add the tart cherry juice.

Add honey as the final step and stir.

Drink choc-cherry soother just before bed, to help ease your cough throughout the night.
